Breckenridge Ski trip!

If you follow my story, you know I grew up in sunny Colorado. My mom and middle sister’s family still reside there and we visit often. The majority of our trips are back to my childhood home in Castle Rock but this time we decided to catch some April snow in Breckenridge at my sister’s mountain home. I’m not sure I’ve ever skied this late in the season and it was awesome. It snowed about 10 inches the night we drove in, making for amazing skiing but also little to no lift lines due to the time of year. I put Tennison and Rylin in Ski school at peak 8, while Chris took Whitley sledding. Our other family adventure included Dog Sledding – a first for everyone. This was such a fun activity and everyone from adults to kids loved it and got to “mush” the dogs and drive the sled! It’s about 20 minutes outside of Breck and a little drive into the backcountry which made for the most stunning snowy scenery. This is a must do for anyone traveling to the mountains, you will not be disappointed and all your friends will think you were on the Iditarod, ha! Below are some helpful links to where we stayed and what we did, comment with any questions about our trip and I’m happy to help.

Ski School – Peak 8 Ski lessons

  • My kids had the best time at ski school and at the end of the day went on runs with me, no problem! Totally worth it but – they did mess up and not give Rylin any sunglasses or her goggles (that I ran back to her). It was a very sunny day and she walked away the areas around her eyes burned (even with sunscreen on, she needed those goggles) – Make sure you have all their equipment on them and don’t be afraid to speak up – we did and they made it right.

Dog Sledding – Bucket list item for sure! Good Times Adventures – see the video below!

  • Dress warmly for the dog sledding, you are out in the elements for a while, I was so glad I had my face covering and goggles with snow blowing in my face. If you don’t have snow gear – they do, even boots so don’t worry too much. Our guide was awesome and so amazing with our kids. Whit really wanted to drive the sled (he is 5 years old) so she rehearsed the hand signals with him and when she felt confident he got it, she let him drive the sled! Best Colorado adventure ever!

Sledding for kids – Arapaho Park (also has a dog park if you bring our furry baby)

Best Pizza and Restaurant for families – Downstairs at Erics

  • Grab a beer and let your kids play at the arcade while you wait for your table (and you will wait so be prepared, this it a popular joint but kids love it and food is great).

Rosemary Beach family vacation

Rosemary beach you have my heart! I should have known that any place that shares its name with my mom would be perfect. 🙂 The soft white sand made building sandcastles with my 3 year old a dream, while the clear water and awesome waves entertained the older kids. Our stunning home was steps from the beach, making family time easy and fun. This dreamy town captures your heart with its lovely architecture, beautiful shops, yummy food and laid back vibe. The memories made with my husband’s side of the family will be cherished forever and we can’t wait to go back!

Sedona, Arizona – personal trip

Chris and I met on the Mizzou swim team and from the beginning our relationship has been centered around sports and being active. We love being outdoors and challenging ourselves athletically, so this trip was a perfect fit for us. We hiked 20 miles on sedona trails over the course of 3 days and took in the most amazing views and sites I’ve ever seen. Sedona also was very relaxing when we weren’t hiking and we had some of the most incredible meals. We have traveled to places like Romania and Germany but Sedona is now on our list of favorites. Here are just a few of my favorite images from our trip – many of which required getting up at 5:45 to be out the door before sunset so we could hike into these areas and get images with amazing light and no one else around!  It was a magical trip!
